Behind Her Eyes: The Soundtrack

Article by Megan Vineberg

With not enough new music to turn to, I found myself starting new series after new series on Netflix, the latest being the suspenseful limited psychothriller series, Behind Her Eyes based on the New York Times and #1 international best selling novel of the same name by Sarah Pinborough. Not to mention, it comes recommended by Stephen King, renowned horror writer. Oh, and if you like The Girl On The Train, Gone, Baby, Gone, and Dead To Me, you’ll like this one. The show follows the story of a single mother, who, by chance meets a man. While they start off on the wrong foot, they begin to like each other enough that they enter an extramarital affair. It even opens up the conversation on spirituality -- (1) synchronicities like that of Louise (the main character))’s date of birth, December 12; concepts like (2) the willful out-of-body experience known in esotericism as astral projection in which the spiritual body is disconnected from the physical one and allows one to visit ; (3) lucid dreaming, through which night terrors and other recurring bad dreams are managed; (4) precognition, or the knowledge of something happening before it occurs. Oh, how the plot thickens. The telling, however, is in the soundtrack. The ominous lyrics about getting high and escaping your life fit the storyline all too well. One song in particular, I Know Places by Lykke Li is one that piqued my interest. Worlds apart from Taylor Swift’s track of the same name, still it upholds the secrecy and mystery.

Ruelle - “Madness” seems fitting being that it’s the main theme behind the show:
