BMEL WRAPPED 2020: Part One

All weekend long, we're featuring some of our writers' favourite tunes in 2020!

Here's Stephanie's...

If there was anything keeping my spirits high during the middle of so much craziness, it was definitely music. This year brought a lot of uncertainties, but many artists also brought a lot of joy to help us escape our reality for while. Here’s are my favorite tunes that brought me joy this year.

  1. “Heat Waves” - Glass Animals

  2. This song brought so much nostalgia and reminded me of summer. In a time where concerts and festivals aren’t a thing, it definitely brings back memories. It made me hopeful that concert life will resume one day.

  3. “Love Again” - Dua Lipa

  4. I would say that Dua Lipa definitely saved 2020. Her album just takes you to a whole other universe and “Love Again” is the embodiment of Lipa’s forte: Dance Crying.

  5. “Passive Aggressive” - Charlotte Cardin

  6. It had been a while since she released new music so I was very excited in general for this. She has an angelic voice and I can’t wait for the upcoming album in 2021.

  7. “Blood” - Bad Child

  8. I saw him live at a Lollapalooza Aftershow in 2019 and he performed this song during his set but it was unreleased at the time. “Blood” speaks about his love for his family and has the coolest beat.

  9. “Nena” - Yendry

  10. I discovered Yendry this year, and the talent that she embodies is incredible. This song musically is a bop and lyrically it carries the story of her childhood.

  11. “BOOKER T” - Bad Bunny

  12. The drop of his newest album brought a lot of joy to many and shows a different side to Bad Bunny. This song showcases his success that he’s garnered throughout the year, an excellent anthem of celebration.

  13. “Therefore I Am” - Billie Eilish

  14. At such a young age, Billie Eilish is killing it in the music industry, This song showcases how versatile her vocals are and the chorus is one of her best which makes you feel like the badest bitch.

  15. “Meet Me At Our Spot” - THE ANXIETY (Willow & Tyler Cole)

  16. When I first heard this song I just envisioned myself driving with my friends with the windows down, and jamming. This song has an overall chill vibe and reminds me that I’ll be able to make memories with my friends again in the future.

  17. “Golden” - Harry Styles

  18. He released his sophomore album in late 2019, and I was looking forward to seeing him in the summer of 2020. Sadly, didn’t happen, but when I listen to this it brings me so much happiness, and imagine myself in the crowd singing my lungs out.

  19. “La luz(Fin)” - Kali Uchis

  20. She recently released her first Spanish album and gave us a masterpiece. This is has a slow reggaeton vibe and features Jhay Cortez. They both duet in this love song obsessing about their lovers.

And here's Sheila's!

2020 has been a challenging yet interesting year, to say the least. It is also the year where Borderless Melodies first started. Growing from a small team to where we are today, a bunch of fantastic partners, it is truly special to work alongside each and every one of these gems. Of course, we could definitely not have done it without our readers. You are all rockstars who have been so supportive of our articles, content, stories and posts. Here are some of my favourite tracks of 2020 to share with all you superstars out there. The music released this year was nothing short of inspiring, and most of all, it has helped us get through quarantine days, isolation and the majority of the time we spent indoors. I hope these songs would bring you warmth, joy and some festive cheer this holiday season and Borderless Melodies will have more incredible and wonderful stories in store for all of you in the new year.

070 Shake - Guilty Conscience

Kygo, Whitney Houston - Higher Love

Chico Rose - Poppin Bottles

Gryffin - Cry

Porter Robinson - Something Comforting

I am optimistic that the world will get closer to the normality that we have all been craving for in 2021. Together, we will dance again and music will always get us through.

All the love, Sheila x
