Lizzo has done it again, releasing a beautiful animated video for the well- loved song “Soulmate” featuring the Fab Five members of the hit Netflix Original Queer Eye. The 2 minute and 59 second music video touches up on the idea of self-love with Pride themed elements. This beautiful piece of artwork comes at the right time, being released during Pride month and the 50th anniversary of the NYC Pride March.
Haven’t seen Netflix’s Queer Eye? We’ve got you covered! Queer Eye is a show centered around “emotionally charged makeovers”. The show touches upon important topics, including extremely necessary social commentary and change, while focusing on spreading positivity and love. Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness and Bobby Berk are the five life- changing individuals who bring love and light to those who need it most. The show gained popularity in 2018 and is currently streaming it’s 5th season on Netflix.
In the video for “Soulmate”, Lizzo and the Fab Five are seen dancing, singing and acting out the song while promoting self- love and acceptance. The lyrics “I know how to love me, I know that I’m always gonna hold me down- yeah I’m my own soulmate. No I’m never lonely, I know I’m a queen but I don’t need no crown” perfectly capture the message Lizzo is sending to fans all across the world. This message is important especially now- a time when the world can use a little bit more love, acceptance, and kindness.
Lizzo has always been vocal about her support for the LGBTQ+ community and why she is forever an ally. In 2019 she performed set at a NYC Pride concert where she told fans “Pride is not just a holiday. It’s a lifestyle. When I look outside and we see all the celebrations going on, I didn’t see this when I was growing up. This is progress. You should all be proud."
