After three years from the release of his sophomore album “Icarus Falls”, Zayn is welcoming a new era of music as we enter 2021. He released his latest single “Vibez” as we anticipate the release of his third album “Nobody is Listening”, which comes out on January 15th via RCA Records.
“Vibez” follows Zayn’s emotive single “Better”, released in September of 2020. He gave us an R&B ballad with “Better”, which followed Malik struggling to shake off and move on from a romantic relationship but coming to terms with it. This new single gives a better indication of what we can expect for his upcoming album. We can definitely expect to see Malik sharing a more personal and vulnerable side to him that we haven’t seen.
This new single offers a sultry slow vibe that remains true to Malik’s R&B sound. Yet, this song offers a hint of pop as the infectious beat and rhythm add a bounce that sway’s you from side to side. He follows several similar motifs from his past releases as he sings about love and sex. A true romantic as he fantasizes about being with the one he loves.
“Don’t keep me waiting/ I’ve been waiting all night to get closer,” he sings on the chorus. “And you already I got it for you/ You know the vibes, know the vibes, put it on ya/ If it’s movin’ too fast, we go slower...You got the vibes, got the vibes.”
“Vibez” was mixed with the idea of immersing the listener into the music and offers a 360 Reality Audio experience, so make sure you got your headphones in when listening to get the best experience.
The music video on its own is a whole masterpiece in itself which was directed by Ben Mor and Produced by London Alley. It opens at a theatre where we see Malik leading a one-man show, transitioning through various theatrical sets and environments. The sets offer a beautiful ambiance throughout the video that makes you wish you could walk through them yourself. At the end of the video, Malik ends up watching the performance from an audience’s perspective as if he was reflecting on his own story.
Many fans anticipate finally listening to his newest album, as they know that this is his most personal project to date. He’s given us some great singles to start our 2021 on some good vibes so I expect nothing less. It’s exciting seeing this former boyband member have a total creative reign on his own art.
